    Join us in celebrating Black History Month. All month long on Twitter, APS staff share who inspires them; what Black History Month means; what it means to grow up African-American; and what message/words of wisdom they would share with students (watch a clip here). Upcoming events:

    Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.: A Soulful Celebration at Gunston Middle School featuring the Arlington Concert Orchestra and narrated by School Board member James Lander

    March 2, 6-8 p.m. Words Out Loud Community Celebration at Wakefield High School

  • More Seats for Students CIP Community Forums
    Arlington Public Schools (APS) is seeking input at a series of community forum meetings as it develops its ten-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) during spring 2016. The CIP process will result in recommendations to the School Board for enhancing instructional opportunities and addressing capacity challenges in APS schools due to projected steady enrollment growth. Forum Dates:Feb. 17; Feb. 24; March 30; and April 13. (More)

  • Summer Activities Fair Scheduled for Feb. 12
    The APS Summer Activities Fair will be held on Fri, Feb. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 2nd Street, South. This event is free to the public and will provide Arlington residents with the opportunity to obtain information about activities that will be offered this summer by a variety of organizations.   • Middle School Course Information Nights
    APS middle schools have been hosting a series of information nights that provide an overview of academic classes and the elective program at the 6th grade level to parents and students. Schools review their after-school opportunities, including clubs and sports programs and families have a chance to meet the administrative teams and participate in a question-and-answer session. One session remains on Feb. 11 at Kenmore Middle School. The session begins at 7 p.m.
